D2 Wayne State too much for BU in exhibition

WAYNE, Neb. -- After hanging tough for a quarter and a half, the Bellevue University women's basketball team suffered an 84-42 exhibition loss at Wayne State College on Wednesday evening.

Wayne State improves to 2-0 as the game counted as a regular-season contest for the Wildcats.

The Bruins trailed just 23-18 after a quarter of play and tied the game at 23-all at the 5:06 mark of the second quarter. BU's defensive effort to open the second limited Wayne State without a point for the first 5:35 of the period.

Bellevue's offense went cold about the time Wayne State found some offensive rhythm from there, engineering an 18-3 run to end the first half and take a 15-point lead into the locker room. The Bruins, after a strong start, finished the game shooting just 27% from the floor and 4-of-18 from beyond the arc on the night. Their woes were compounded as the finished -16 in turnovers, committing 24 to WSC's eight.

More of the same featured in the third quarter with the hosts out-scoring the Bruins 25-8 in the quarter. Aminah Hall accounted for seven of the eight points in the third.

Ashtyn Arnold led the Bruins with 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. Hall added seven points and Zakiyyah Muhammad chipped in six with the latter grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Wayne State received a game-high 19 points from Britney Ho, one of three Wildcats in double figures on the evening. Delaney Clark and Jordon Heckert each tossed in 11 points in the victory.

Bellevue travels to Emporia, Kan. on Saturday, Nov. 18 for another exhibition affair against Emporia State University at 5:30 p.m.
