Bruins fall in exhibition at South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Bellevue University women's basketball team stepped out of regular season play on Wednesday evening for a matchup against one of last year's NCAA Sweet 16 participant University of South Dakota, a game won by the Coyotes 100-38.

The game counted as an exhibition for the Bruins while South Dakota has now won back-to-back games to improve to 2-1.

Bellevue struggled offensively in the first half, hitting on just 19% of their field goal attempts while committing eight turnovers and entered the break trailing 55-18. USD also turned the ball over eight times but that was offset by a 69% effort from the floor and 8-for-14 showing from deep.

Madison Grange led all players with 16 points at the break, including a 4-for-4 effort from downtown as all 11 Coyotes who saw first half action worked their way into the coring column. Aminah Hall paced the Bruins with seven at intermission.

Bellevue defended a bit better in the second half as USD connected at a 43% clip overall and 27% from deep.

Asha Scott finished with nine points and two rebounds. Hall totaled seven points and three board and Laura Jurek tossed in six points.

Grange paced six Coyotes in double figures with 20 points. Carley Duffney (14), Walker Demers (12), Nicole Avila-Ambrosi (11), Alexi Hempe (10), and Grace Larkins (10) each joined her.

The Bruins return home on Friday, Nov. 18 when they host Grand View University at 6 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
