Career game from Jurek leads BU to big win over Southwestern Christian

HILLSBORO, Kan. -- Laura Jurek drained three three-pointers en route to scoring a career-high 22 points to lead Bellevue to an 80-64 win over Southwestern Christian University on Saturday at the Tabor Classic.

The win sees Bellevue improve their record to 3-4 while the Eagles fall to 1-2.

Bellevue started hot, racing out to a 20-11 lead after a quarter of play, paced by 11 points from Laura Jurek on 4-of-5 shooting, including hitting a pair of treys.

The second quarter saw Southwestern Christian make a run, cutting the Bruin lead to just two points, 37-35 at the break. Jurek and Delaney VanBlaricon, combining for 13 points, led Bellevue in the period.

BU quickly restored their double-figure lead with an 11-2 run to open the third quarter. Asha Scott scored eight in the stanza as the Bruins led 62-50 headed into the fourth.

Bellevue kept their double figure lead throughout the final quarter, stretching it to a game-high 19 points in the final minute before securing the 16-point triumph.

Jurek finished with 22 to lead Bellevue and was one of six Bruins to grab at-least five rebounds. Scott and VanBlaricon joined in double figures with 15 and 10, respectively.

Lauren Wade scored 18 to pace SCU. Tresha Yager (12) and Jaden Mason (11) combined for 23 in the loss.

Bellevue returns home on Friday, Nov. 18 when they welcome Grand View to the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center for a 6 p.m. tip.
