Three Bruins recognized in conference award program

WATERTOWN, S.D. -- A total of three Bellevue University women's basketball players were recognized as all-conference performers at the annual North Star Athletic Association Awards Banquet on Friday evening inside the Watertown Event Center.

Junior forward Elexis Martinez (Omaha, Neb.) earned first team honors for the second-straight season. She paced the Bruins in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots on the season. Her 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game rank seventh and fifth in the conference, respectively while her 32 blocked shots were good for seventh.

Sophomore guard Faith Ross (Gretna, Neb.) netted second team honors for the second year in a row. She is averaging 10.8 points per game, good for second on the team, and has drained a team-high 64 three-pointers on the year. Her 53 assists and 37 steals each rank third on the team.

Senior guard Brittany Hill (Detroit, Mich.) took home honorable mention honors as she has caught fire over the last five games. For the season, she is averaging 10.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game and is shooting a team-high 42.2 percent from beyond the arc. However, in the last handful of games she is averaging 16.2 points per game and has totaled 10 steals while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and 48 percent from three.

Bellevue, the regular-season co-champions along with Mayville State, defeated Presentation in the first round of the NSAA Tournament on Tuesday. The top-seeded Bruins (21-10) take on fifth-seeded Viterbo (12-14) tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the semifinals from the Watertown Civic Arena.
