VERMILLION, S.D. -- Jamie Winkler scored a team-high 13 points but the Bellevue University women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division I University of South Dakota 79-40 on Sunday afternoon at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The game was counted as an exhibition for Bellevue while South Dakota considered it a regular-season contest. The Coyotes improve to 9-1 on the year with the win.

USD shot 50 percent in the opening period while holding the Bruins to just 2-of-12 shooting (16.7 percent) as the Coyotes built a 25-7 lead after one quarter of play.
Bellevue's fortunes didn't improve much in the second quarter as they went into the halftime break trailing 49-19. Elexis Martinez and Laura Jurek had four points apiece at the break with Martinez adding a team-best four rebounds.
Monica Arens paced the Coyotes with 10 first half points while Allison Arens, Liv Korngable, and Hannah Sjerven each contributed eight at the break.
The Bruins played a much tighter third quarter with South Dakota, being out-scored by just a single point. Six of nine BU points came at the charity stripe as they entered the fourth quarter trailing 59-28.
Bellevue turned in their best offensive period in the fourth quarter scoring 12 points as South Dakota finished off the victory.
Jamie Winkler scored a team-high 13 points for the Bruins on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and a 5-of-6 effort from the free throw line. Martinez added seven points and a game-high eight boards for BU.
Korngable and Monica Arens shared game-high honors with 14 points apiece. Sjerven joined them in double figures with 10 points of her own.
