
SEWARD, Neb. -- A six-run fourth inning broke the game open as the Bellevue University softball team rolled to a 9-2 non-conference win over Concordia University on Wednesday night at Plum Creek Park.
With the victory, the Bruins improved to 26-17 on the season, while the Bulldogs dropped to 25-18 overall.
BU outhit Concordia 11-6, fueled by four extra-base hits and multi-RBI performances from several players. Alexa Sidel went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Liana McMurtry drove in three runs, and Breanne McMurtry added two RBIs.
The Bruins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, sparked by a two-out RBI double from Mariah Unverzagt, an RBI single by Liana McMurtry, and Sidel's RBI triple to center.
Concordia answered in the bottom half on a double steal that brought home Jennifer Katz, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
BU put the game out of reach in the fourth, erupting for six runs. Savannah Short opened the scoring with an RBI double down the right-field line, followed by a two-run double from Breanne McMurtry. Sidel added an RBI single, and bases-loaded walks to Liana McMurtry and Miranda Garcia capped the inning, giving the Bruins a 9-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs tacked on a final run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Taryn Ganstrom, but couldn't close the gap.
Unverzagt (7-1) was credited with the win, allowing just one hit in two innings of work. Kaylei Denison (11-5) took the loss for Concordia, surrendering three runs on four hits in three innings.
The Bruins return to NSAA play on Friday, April 25, hosting Dakota State in a noon doubleheader at Roy Smith Field.
