Short becomes third signee in 2024-25 recruiting class

Bruin head softball coach Michala Cimino announced today the third signee in BU's 2024-25 recruiting class with the addition of infielder Savannah Short (Independence, Mo./Kansas City Kansas CC/Fort Osage HS). Short will continue her academic and athletic pursuits at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2024.

Short played two seasons at Kansas City Kansas CC and will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Bruins. She batted .413 last season with eight home runs, 15 doubles, and 52 RBIs. During her two-year career at KCKCC, she drove in 79 runs while launching 11 home runs and belting 17 doubles.

She earned first-team all-KJCCC honors while being named to the all-tournament team at the 2024 KJCCC Tournament. Short was named a second-team NJCAA all-Academic selection.

Short, the daughter of Lowell and Tina Short, prepped at Fort Osage HS under head coach Kelly Sullivan. She batted .506 in her senior campaign with 10 home runs, eight doubles, and 42 RBIs. Short was a three-time first-team all-conference selection while also being named to the all-Region and all-Area teams.

An excellent student, Short was a three-time academic all-state honoree. She was also a three-time selection to the President's Honor Roll.

Unverzagt joins earlier signees, infielder Kaitlyn Fisher (Omaha, Neb./Millard West HS) and pitcher Mariah Unverzagt (Papillion, Neb./ Johnson Country CC/Papillion-LaVists South HS) in the 2024-25 recruiting class.

The Bruins wrapped up the 2024 season with an overall record of 34-22 and a 19-3 mark in conference play, winning the North Star Athletic Association regular season title while finishing second in the NSAA post-season tournament. Bellevue advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the 11th time in school history.
