Eight BU softball players named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2024 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday, and eight Bruin softball players were named to the prestigious list. 

Bruins who were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes included senior outfielder Myla Beckstrom, senior catcher Lexi Blankenfeld, sophomore shortstop Emma Crisman, junior pitcher Katie Cunningham, sophomore outfielder Leslie Egan, senior pitcher Savannah Gunn, senior third baseman Madison Machacek, and junior outfielder Alexa Sidel.  

The 2024 NAIA list features 1,250 student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year at said institution.

The Bruins wrapped up the 2024 season with an overall record of 34-22 and a 19-3 mark in conference play, winning the North Star Athletic Association regular season title while finishing second in the NSAA post-season tournament. Bellevue advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the 11th time in school history.
