Cunningham, Machacek sweep weekly NSAA honors

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Senior third baseman Madison Machacek and junior pitcher Katie Cunningham helped the Bellevue University softball team sweep the weekly North Star Athletic Association honors for their performances last week in Bellevue's annual trip to Florida. 

For the fifth time in her Bruin career, Cunningham was named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week. Machacek was honored as the NSAA Player of the Week. 

Cunningham recorded a 2-2 record on the week with wins over Spring Arbor and Judson. She compiled an ERA of 1.21 while registering 20 strikeouts over 29 innings pitched. 

In Bellevue's 6-0 win over Judson on Mar. 8, Cunningham tossed a complete-game no-hitter while striking out six Eagles. 

Machacek batted .379 on the week as BU went 5-5 in Florida. She recorded a .655 slugging percentage with five doubles and a home run. Machacek recorded multiple hits in four games and is currently on a four-game hitting streak. 

In Bellevue's 4-0 win over Spring Arbor, Machacek went 2-for-2 with a home run. In BU's 8-5 victory at Warner, she went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.  

The Bruins return home this weekend (Mar. 16-17) for a four-game conference series with Valley City State University at Roy Smith Field in Omaha. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday's twin-bill will commence at noon.
