BU wins 12th straight with 10-4 victory at Peru

PERU, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team used three home runs, including two by Sami Reding, to earn its 12th-straight victory with a 10-4 non-conference win at Peru State College Wednesday afternoon at the Centennial Complex.

The Bruins improved to 28-9 on the season. Peru fell to 7-29 overall. 

Bellevue took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo homer to center field by Reding. 

PSC quickly answered in the bottom of the first with a solo homer to center by Ellie Ohlde, tying the contest at 1-1.  

BU regained the lead in the top of the third frame when a fielding error by Bobcat second baseman Kylie Dieckmann allowed Reding and Mya Montero to score, giving the Bruins a 3-1 advantage. 

Bellevue made it 4-1 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single to right-center field by Montero that scored Alyssa Morbach

Peru battled back in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single left-center field by Hailey Wessel, slicing the BU lead to 4-3. 

The Bruins responded in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run homer to left field by Ashley Young, pushing the margin to 6-3. 

A two-run single to left field by Atiana Rodriguez and a two-run homer to left field by Reding extended the BU advantage to 10-3 in the top of the sixth. 

The Bobcats countered in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to left-center field by Sophia Summers, pulling PSC to within six runs at 10-4. 

Reding finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Lauren Jurek was 4-for-4 in the contest and Montero went 2-for-2. 

Katie Cunningham (9-4) earned the win, replacing starter Ellie Zoucha in the fourth inning. Cunningham gave up one run and three hits while walking two and striking out five Bobcats in four innings of work.  

The Bruins will travel to Madison, S.D. tomorrow (Apr. 20) for a 3 p.m. NSAA doubleheader at Dakota State University.
