BU comes from behind to take down Flames, 6-4

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team pounded out 12 hits and rebounded from a 4-2 deficit to record a 6-4 non-conference victory over visiting College of St. Mary Thursday night at Roy Smith Field. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 14-8 on the season, extending their winning streak to six games. 

The Flames fell to 3-14 with the loss.  

A two-run homer to center field by Emma Hofmaier gave the Flames an early 2-0 advantage in the top of the first. 

The Bruins responded in the bottom half of the first inning with two runs on a solo homer to center field by Reese Floro and an RBI single to center by Allison O'Driscoll to tie the contest at 2-all. 

A two-run single to left field by Mickayla Larsen helped CSM regain the lead at 4-2 in the top of the second frame. 

BU tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning on Liana McMurtry's two-run double to center field.

The Bruins took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs on RBI singles by O'Driscoll and Katie Cunningham to take a 6-4 advantage. 

Cunningham retired the final six Flame batters to earn the victory, improving to 4-5 on the season. She allowed five hits and no earned runs while walking two and striking out eight in six innings of work. 

Emma Schnell (3-6) was tagged with the loss, scattering 11 hits with one walk and no strikeouts while giving up six runs in 4.1 innings in the circle.  

Floro went 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. After connecting on her first three at-bats, Floro had her consecutive-hit streak snapped at nine when she lined out to the short stop in the bottom of the fifth.  

The Bruins will open conference play on Saturday, Mar. 26 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Viterbo University. In between games, the Bruins seniors, Maricela Egan, Allison O'Driscoll, Emily Rochford, as well as team manager Abigail Harvey will all be honored.
