KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of one-run games on Monday at THE Spring Games, falling to Dordt University, 1-0, in the opener, before rebounding with a 1-0 victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio in the nightcap.

Bellevue moved to 7-6 on the 2022 season with the split.

The Bruins will continue action in THE Spring Games on Tuesday, March 8, with an 8 a.m. contest against Spring Arbor University and a 10:15 a.m. battle with No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan University.

Dordt 1, Bellevue 0

The first contest was a pitcher's duel as the two teams connected on five total hits with only one extra-base hit.

Neither team scored until the Defenders registered three-consecutive hits, capped by an RBI single to right field by Karli Olsen, to give Dordt a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Abby Kraemer retired the side in the top of the seventh, including a pair of strikeouts, to preserve the one-run victory.

Kraemer (4-3) earned the complete-game win, scattering two hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Cory Carrillo (2-1), who did not surrender a hit until the sixth inning, took the loss, giving up one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts in six innings in the circle.

Liana McMurtry and Sami Reding were the only two Bruins to collect hits in the loss.

Bellevue 1, UNOH 0

The Bruins used the outstanding pitching effort of Lauren Jurek and a solo home run by Ashley Young to produce the 1-0 victory in the nightcap.

After a scoreless first three 1/2 innings, Young gave BU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo homer over the left-field fence.

Jurek allowed just two hits while walking two and striking out seven in seven innings of work. She did not allow an extra-base hit in the contest while improving to 2-1 on the season.

Carlie Hanes suffered the loss, scattering four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in six innings in the circle.
