
OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior outfielder Maricela Egan drilled two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Bellevue University softball team to a 9-3 non-conference victory over visiting York College Wednesday afternoon at Roy Smith Field.
The Bruins improved to 6-4 on the season with the victory. York fell to 0-8.
Egan went 2-for-2 in the victory with two home runs and two walks. She scored three runs in the win.
Emily Rochford went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Reese Floro finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.
An RBI double to center field by Floro and a two-run homer to center by Egan gave the Bruins an early 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning.
Egan blasted her second home run, a two-run shot over the center-field fence to give BU a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third frame. A solo homer to left-center field by Lauren Jurek increased the margin to 6-0 later in the third.
A bases-loaded walk to Sariah Ayala and a fielder's choice RBI by Katherine Arceo followed by a BU throwing error pulled the Panthers to within three runs at 6-3 in the top of the fifth frame.
A three-run double to center field by Rochford increased the Bruin advantage to 9-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Cory Carrillo (2-0) picked up the victory, scattering four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts in five innings of work.
Rochford earned the save, not allowing a hit while striking out four Panthers in the final two innings of the contest.
The Bruins will head to Kissimmee, Fla. on March 6-11 to compete in THE Spring Games, where Bellevue will compete in 10 games over the six-day span.
