
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Shaye Kemball threw a complete-game one-hit shutout as Mayville State University ended the Bellevue University softball team's season with a 4-0 shutout in a loser's bracket contest at the North Star Athletic Association Softball Tournament Friday afternoon at the Lied Activity Center Softball Fields.
The Bruins ended their season with a 36-20 overall record. Mayville State advanced to play Waldorf University in a loser's bracket contest. BU went 19-straight innings without a run in the tournament.
The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a single by Ashlyn Tingey and an ensuing throwing error by shortstop Ellie Bliemeister that allowed Jocelyn Ontiveros to score from second.
A sacrifice fly to left field by Ontiveros, an RBI double to left by Brooke Rouges, and a run-scoring single to right by Tingey increased the MSU advantage to 4-0 in the top of the fifth frame.
Kemball improved to 7-8 on the season, allowing just one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Savannah Gunn (10-7) was credited with the loss, allowing eight hits with no walks and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings in the circle.
