OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team ran its winning streak to seven games after sweeping Waldorf University, 4-0 and 11-3, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Roy Smith Field.
With the sweep, the Bruins improved to 33-18 on the season and 19-7 in the NSAA. Waldorf dropped to 8-29 overall and 6-19 in league play.
Bellevue's four seniors, Brieanna Brock, Randi Henry, Emily Mendick, and Allison O'Driscoll were all honored in between the two games.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader on Sunday (May 2) at Roy Smith Field.
Game 1: Bellevue 4, Waldorf 0
The Bruins scored two runs in the fourth and sixth innings and rode the solid pitching effort of Lauren Jurek en route to the 4-0 shutout in the opener.
Neither team scored until BU plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single to center field by Emily Rochford and on a sacrifice fly to center field by Kelsey Arnold, giving BU a 2-0 advantage.
A two-run single to right field by Ellie Bliemeister increased the BU lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth.
Jurek improved to 16-7 on the season, allowing seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in seven complete innings.
Alex Mathers (4-13) suffered the loss, giving up 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work.
Game 2: Bellevue 11, Waldorf 3 (5 innings)
The Bruins pounded out 14 hits and got three RBIs each from Rochford and Maricela Egan to earn the 11-3 run-rule victory in the nightcap.
The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first following three BU fielding errors in the inning
A two-run double to left field by Jurek gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the first.
Back-to-back home runs by Rochford and Arnold increased the BU lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the second.
Waldorf closed the gap to 5-3 in the top of the third, scoring on a fielding error by Rochford and on a groundout RBI by Kaylee Leyvas.
An RBI double to center field by Rochford pushed the margin to 6-3 in the bottom of the third.
The Bruins made it 8-3 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run homer to right field by Egan.
BU ended the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI single to center field by Alyssa Morbach and on a run-scoring single to left field by Egan.
Cory Carillo (6-1) earned the victory, scattering five hits with no walks and five strikeouts in five innings in the circle.
