BU rallies to defeat Keiser; Shut out by Dordt

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of games on Thursday at the Spring Games, rallying to defeat Keiser University, 6-2, before being shutout by Dordt University, 4-0, in the nightcap. 

The Bruins are now 12-9 on the season with the split. 

Bellevue will return to action on Friday (Mar. 12) when they battle Calumet at 10:00 a.m. and Ave Maria at 12:15 p.m. (central time). 

Bellevue 6, Keiser 2

Trailing 2-0, the Bruins rallied with six runs over the fifth and six innings to pull out the 6-2 win in the opener.  

Keiser took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer to left field by Cheyenne Blumberg. 

The Bruins battled back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, sparked by RBI singles from Katlyn Kinman and Ashley Young. BU also scored on a bases-loaded hit batsman and a bases-loaded walk to take a 4-2 lead. 

After an error by KU's right fielder Mikayla Frost allowed BU to score another run, an RBI double to center field by Allison O'Driscoll pushed the BU advantage to 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth frame. 

Lauren Jurek (7-4) earned her seventh victory of the season, scattering four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in seven innings of work. Jurek retired the Seahawks' final 10 batters. 

Giovanna Watts suffered the loss, allowing seven hits with no walks and one strikeout in 4.2 innings. 

Dordt 4, Bellevue 0

Abby Kraemer tossed a no-hitter to lead Dordt to the 4-0 shutout victory over the Bruins in the nightcap. 

Savannah Gunn got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the third, inducing two pop-ups and a ground-out to keep the game scoreless. 

Kenzie Cunard's RBI single to centerfield provided the game's first run, giving the Defenders a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

A three-run homer to left field by Brooklyn Van Oort pushed the Defender advantage to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

Kraemer improved to 5-3 on the season, allowing five walks with seven strikeouts in seven complete innings in the circle. 

Gunn (3-4) was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings of work.
