KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of games on Monday afternoon at the Spring Games, downing Bethel (Ind.), 5-0, in the opener, before falling to Siena Heights, 7-2, in the nightcap.

With the split, the Bruins moved to 6-3 on the season.

The Bruins will continue action at the tournament tomorrow (Mar. 4) when they take on Spring Arbor and 9 a.m. and No. 4-ranked Marian at 11:15 a.m.

Bellevue 5, Bethel (Ind.) 0

Lauren Jurek tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout and Emily Rochford launched her team-leading fourth home run of the season as the Bruins notched their second-consecutive shutout of the season with the 5-0 victory over the Pilots.

Ellie Bliemeister went 3-for-4 in the victory and Rochford drove in a pair of runs.

A two-run homer to center field by Rochford and an RBI double to left field by Allison O'Driscoll gave the Bruins an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

BU made it 5-0 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single to left field by Katlyn Kinman and on a line-drive RBI single to right field by Mya Montero.

Bethel never threatened in the contest until the bottom of the seventh when the Pilots loaded the bases with no outs. Jurek, however, produced two-straight strikeouts, while inducing an infield popup to preserve the 5-0 shutout victory.

Jurek (2-0) scattered five hits with no walks and six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Chloe DeJonge (0-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs on three hits with one walk, all in the first inning.

Siena Heights 7, Bellevue 2

Siena Heights scored five runs on two homers in the first two innings, chasing starter Cory Carrillo and propelling the Saints to a 7-2 victory in BU's final contest of the day.

Bellevue managed just four hits and committed five fielding errors in the loss.

A three-run homer to left field by Haley Rose gave the Saints an early 3-0 advantage in the top of the first frame.

SHU increased the lead to 5-0 in the top of the second on a two-run dinger to right field by Kristi Carlson.

Two-consecutive BU fielding errors and three-straight walks by Brieanna Brock led to two more runs for the Saints, giving SHU a 7-0 edge in the top of the sixth inning.

The Bruins avoided the shutout, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single to left field by Ashley Young and on a sacrifice fly to center field by Kelsey Arnold, making the final, 7-2.

Carrillo suffered the loss, falling to 3-1 on the season, after allowing five runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 1.1 innings in the circle.

Kelsey Uhl earned the victory, scattering four hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven complete innings of work.
