With the sweep Bellevue heads into the postseason with an overall mark of 32-18 (19-5 North Star) while Presentation wraps up the regular season at 23-27 (11-13 North Star).
The Bruins return to the diamond on Friday, May 6 when they compete at the NSAA Conference Tournament in Aberdeen, S.D. The complete seeding and matchups will be announced within the next day or so.
Game One: Bellevue 3, Presentation 0
Kelli Fisher faced just one batter over the minimum to pitch Bellevue to a 3-0 win over Presentation in the opener. Fisher set down the final ten batters she faced to wrap up the three-hit shutout.
The Bruins got on the board in the second inning. Emily Miller led off the inning with a double to deep left, advanced to third on a bunt single by Katie Franzen and came in to score when Courtney Schendt singled to right-center.
BU added to its lead in the fourth when Sayde Woten scored the Bruins' second run. A groundout advanced Woten after her one-out double and Kaitlyn Goney lined a single into center to up the Bruin advantage to 2-0.
Bellevue added an insurance run in the fifth. A single and walk by Emily Gigax and Erin Sharpe leading off the inning brought Emily Miller to the plate with a chance to add on. Miller doubled down the left field line to bring home Gigax with the third BU run.
With the win Fisher (20-11) becomes just the 10th 20-game winner in program history.
Maddie Siedlik, Gigax, and Miller each had multi-hit efforts for the Bruins.
Game Two: Bellevue 2, Presentation 1
BU rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit to chalk up a 2-1 victory in the nightcap and take the series, three games to one.
Presentation jumped on the board first in game two, scoring a run in the opening frame. Consecutive base hits – a single and a double – by Cortni Mendoza and Haylee Hemmert provided a great scoring threat for the Saints. Kassandra Orozco came through with a sac fly to score Mendoza for the early 1-0 lead.
That's where the score remained until third inning when Bellevue grabbed their first lead of the ballgame. Maddie Siedlik doubled home Kaitlyn Goney ahead of a sac fly from Kayla Young. It could have been an even bigger inning for the purple and gold but the Bruins had a runner thrown out at the plate on a wild pitch.
Siedlik produced a multi-hit game for the Bruins.
Fisher (21-11) earned the win in relief in game two to tie herself for fourth on the all-time wins list for BU pitchers. She logged four innings out of the 'pen and held Presentation to just three hits.
