BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team swept a pair of North Star Athletic Association games Saturday at the Lied Center, winning 4-2 in the opener and 8-0 in five innings in the nightcap.
The Bruins, who have won 11-straight games, improved to 19-13 on the season and 9-1 in the NSAA. MSU dropped to 11-16 overall and 4-6 in league play.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Lied Center.
Game 1: Bellevue 4, Mayville State 2
The Bruins used the solid pitching of Kelli Fisher and timely hitting to pull out the 4-2 win in the opener.
A two-run double by Danielle Sheridan gave the Comets a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
The Bruins responded in the top of the fifth with a pinch-hit three-run double by Kayla Young to give BU the lead at 3-2.
An RBI single to right field by Sarah Zeleny gave BU an insurance run and a 4-2 advantage in the top of the sixth inning.
Fisher improved to 12-8 on the season, allowing six hits with six strikeouts and one walk in seven innings in the circle.
Game 2: Bellevue 8, Mayville State 0 (5 innings)
The Bruins pounded out 11 hits and Erin Sharpe pitched a five-hit shutout as the Bruins completed the sweep with an 8-0 shutout in the nightcap.
The Bruins struck quickly in the bottom of the first with RBI singles by Emily Miller and Courtney Schendt and a two-run single by Sayde Woten, giving BU an early 4-0 advantage.
An RBI double by Miller and a sacrifice fly to right field by Sharpe extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the second.
Bellevue made it 7-0 in the third on an RBI single to center field by Zeleny.
A solo homer to left field by Maddie Siedlik pushed the BU lead to 8-0 in the fourth inning.
Sharpe improved to 6-5 on the season, allowing five hits with five strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work.
