Mohler, Gonzalez named BU Athletes of the Year

Baseball standout Osvaldo Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) and softball ace Taylor Mohler (Cedar Creek, Neb.) were named the Bellevue University Athletes of the Year in an announcement made today in conjunction with the 42nd Annual Bellevue University Athletic Banquet.

Taylor Mohler

Mohler helped lead the Bruins to their third-straight MCAC Tournament title last week and to their third-consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.

She was named the 2015 MCAC Pitcher of the Year while earning all-conference honors for the third time in her career. An excellent student, she was also named an MCAC and Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the second time.

Mohler was named the MCAC Pitcher of the Week an amazing 13 times throughout her career, including five times this season.

Her name can be found all over the Bruin softball records' charts. She currently ranks first in career strikeouts (803), shutouts (25), and saves (6), while ranking second in career wins with 69. She set the single-season record this season with 10 shutouts and needs just 14 more strikeouts to set the single-season mark in that category.

Overall, Mohler ranks in the top 5 statistically in over 25 categories on the Bruin single-season and career records charts.

In addition, she also set the Bruin single-game record with 17 strikeouts in BU's 3-1 win at William Penn on March 20.

For her career, Mohler has guided the Bruins to three MCAC Tournament titles, two MCAC regular season championships, and to three NAIA National Tournament appearances, helping BU to an overall record of 161-55-1 during her career.

Osvaldo Gonzalez

Gonzalez made an immediate impact on the Bruin baseball squad in his one and only season with the team.

Gonzalez was named the 2015 MCAC Player of the Year, while also earning a spot on the MCAC Gold Glove team. He helped guide the Bruins to the MCAC Tournament title last weekend and to a No. 16 national ranking.

He earned MCAC Player of the Week honors on two occasions and on April 7, he was named the NAIA National Player of the Week after batting .619 with four doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs in BU's five games on the week.

Gonzalez currently leads the Bruins with a .430 batting average, 29 doubles, 15 home runs, 62 RBIs and an .800 slugging percentage. His 29 doubles ranks first nationally. Overall, Gonzalez ranks in the top 10 nationally in five statistical categories.
