Softball sees three major award winners, nine named all-MCAC

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Three members of the Bellevue University softball team were named major award winners and nine players landed on the all-Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference first or second team as announced by the conference today.

Seniors Taylor Mohler and Ashley Gigax were named Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively while head coach Michala Cimino was named Coach of the Year. Gigax, last year's Newcomer of the Year, earned her second major award and Mohler becomes Bellevue's second MCAC Pitcher of the Year in the last three seasons. Cimino was named Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her six-year Bellevue career.

Mohler and Gigax were also named to the all-MCAC First Team as a pitcher and infielder, respectively. The duo was joined on the first team by freshman Sayde Woten (catcher), senior Shelby Kindelin (infield), freshman Alex Tooley (infield), sophomore Sydney Robertson (outfield), and junior Courtney Schendt (outfield). Sophomores Kelli Fisher (pitcher) and Kaitlyn Goney (outfield) were both named to the all-MCAC Second Team.

The Bruins (38-11-1) won the MCAC Regular Season Championship and, with a pair of wins today, have advanced to the MCAC Tournament Championship Game.
