Gigax highlights NAIA all-Nebraska softball team

Junior outfielder Ashley Gigax was named the Omaha World-Herald's honorary captain of the NAIA all-Nebraska softball team in an announcement made today by the local newspaper. In addition, Shelby Kindelin, Kelli Fisher and Sydney Robertson also earned first team honors. 

Gigax, the MCAC Newcomer of the Year and two-time conference Player of the Week, recorded a .358 batting average with a .617 slugging percentage, 48 RBIs, nine home runs and 11 doubles.

Fisher, a redshirt freshman, had a team-best 18 wins and threw a perfect game against Cardinal Stritch University on March 21. She compiled 137 strikeouts with a 1.63 ERA in 159 innings in the circle, while earning first-team all-MCAC honors.

Kindelin, a two-time first team all-conference selection, finished with a .378 batting average with 12 doubles, four triples, four home runs and a team-high 46 runs scored. The Plattsmouth, Neb. native also picked up a win and struck out 20 batters as a pitcher.

Robertson was third on the team with a .373 batting average, while scoring 29 runs and collecting 16 RBIs. 

Senior center fielder Alyssa Matoba, junior pitcher Taylor Mohler and freshman second baseman Katy Shupe all earned honorable mention honors. 

Bellevue finished the 2014 season with a 36-17 overall record and a 16-4 mark in the MCAC. The Bruins advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the second-straight season and seventh time in program history.
