Kindelin, Mohler nab final weekly MCAC honors

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- After guiding the Bruins to the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title, junior shortstop Shelby Kindelin and junior pitcher Taylor Mohler were honored as the final 2014 recipients of the MCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 4. 

Kindelin earned Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career after batting .412 on the week with two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs and an .882 slugging percentage.  

In Bellevue's 5-4 loss at Morningside, Kindelin belted two solo homers, going 3-for-4 while also adding a double and two RBIs. She went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in BU's 2-1 opening round win over Oklahoma Wesleyan at the MCAC Tournament. 

Mohler, who earned the honor for the third time this season and the eighth time in her career, went 2-0 on the week, finishing with a 1.80 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings of work. She earned the win in relief in the MCAC Tournament title game, as BU defeated No. 23 Central Baptist, 7-4. 

In Bellevue's first round win over Oklahoma Wesleyan, Mohler tossed a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts in seven innings in the circle. She recorded seven strikeouts in the final 4 2/3 innings in the win over Central Baptist in the MCAC title game. 

Bellevue earned an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament after winning the MCAC Tournament title. 

Bellevue (35-15) has now won 12 conference tournament championships in program history and will advance to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round on May 12-14. The pairings for the 10 four-team NAIA Opening Round Tournaments will be announced at 7 p.m. on May 6. Winners of each Opening Round site will advance to the NAIA Softball World Series on May 23-29 in Columbus, Ga.
