BELLEVUE, Neb. -- After falling to Concordia (Neb.) University 4-2 in the opener, the Bellevue University softball team bounced back with a 5-3 victory over the Bulldogs in the nightcap in nonconference action at Hall of Fame Fields on Tuesday.
Bellevue is now 15-11 overall while Concordia moved its record to 20-5.
The Bruins will return to action tomorrow with a conference doubleheader at York College (2-24, 1-3 MCAC). First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Miller Park.
Concordia 4, Bellevue 2
The Bulldogs scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull out the 4-2 win in the opener.
Brittany Hudler hit a solo home run and Rebecca Walker added an RBI single to give Concordia an early 2-0 advantage in the opening inning.
Ashley Gigax, this week's MCAC Player of the Week, tied the game in the bottom half of the first with a two-out two-run single to right field.
CU regained the lead in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly before a double in the fifth extended its advantage to 4-2.
Amanda Beeson (9-3) earned the win and allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in the complete game.
Taylor Mohler took the loss in relief and fell to 6-6. Mohler recorded five strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
CU outhit the Bruins by two, 8-6. Sydney Robertson and Gigax led BU with two hits apiece.
Bellevue 5, Concordia 3
Kelli Fisher held Concordia without a hit through the first 4.1 innings and Gigax added three hits and two RBIs to lead Bellevue to a 5-3 win in the second game.
Augusta Ratliff gave BU its first lead of the doubleheader with a single that scored Katy Shupe who walked in the bottom of the first inning.
BU took advantage of a two-out fielding error and scored three runs on two hits highlighted by a Gigax two-run home run in the third.
The Bulldogs scored their first run of the game in the sixth inning on a Bruin error. In the home half of the frame, BU scored a run, also on an error, to take a 5-1 lead into the seventh.
Diana Mendoza tallied a two-run triple to pull CU within two, 5-3, but Ratliff ended the game by throwing out Danielle Harstad who was attempting to steal second base.
Fisher improved to 8-3 in the circle for the Bruins after tossing a complete game four-hitter with seven strikeouts. The Yutan, Neb. native leads the BU pitching staff in wins (8), complete games (11) and ERA (1.70).
Seven different Bruins registered a hit, including four with multi-hit games in the finale. BU finished with 12 hits in the contest.
Lexye Bruegman dropped to 3-2 for CU after giving up five runs, one earned, in 5.1 innings.
