MCPHERSON, Kan. -- The Bellevue University softball team opened conference action with a split in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Friday evening at Wall Park.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University handed the Bruins a 3-2 loss in the opener before the Bruins posted a 14-0 victory, in five innings, against Central Christian College.
With the split, the Bruins moved to 13-9 overall and 1-1 in the MCAC.
The Bruins will conclude the conference crossover tomorrow with games scheduled against Central Baptist College and Haskell Indian Nations University.
Oklahoma Wesleyan 3, Bellevue 2
Oklahoma Wesleyan scored a run in the seventh inning to break-up a tied game and earn the conference win, 3-2.
After a lead-off walk, the Eagles scored the first run of the game in the second inning on Macy Wright's RBI single.
OKWU used a solo home run by Allison Edwards to take a 2-0 lead in the fourth.
Shelby Kindelin registered BU's first hit of the game in the sixth that allowed Sydney Robertson, who reached base on a throwing error, to score from second base. Katy Shupe added an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
Courtney Gililland gave the Eagles the win with a two-out single in the top of the seventh.
Jenna Daniel, who had a no-hitter through the first 5.1 innings, tossed the complete game two-hitter and improved to 9-7. She walked two batters and struck out six.
Kelli Fisher fell to 6-3 after giving up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 15-16 overall and 6-1 in the MCAC.
Bellevue 14, Central Christian 0 (5 innings)
The Bruins bounced back with a convincing 14-0 win, in five innings, over host Central Christian in the finale.
Kristin Burhenne, Ashley Gigax, Katie Malloy and Robertson each had multi-hit and multi-RBI games.
Taylor Mohler threw her second no-hitter of the season and struck out 11 with only two walks to improve to 6-4. She also held Ottawa University without a hit on March 19 at Hall of Fame Fields.
The Bruin pitching staff has now thrown three no-hitters and one perfect game this season.
BU scored four runs on four hits in the opening inning highlighted by a Burhenne two-run single and a Gigax RBI hit. BU also scored a run on a wild pitch.
Robertson gave the Bruin a five-run advantage with a single in the second.
The Bruins exploded for five runs and took advantage of three CCC errors to take a commanding 10-0 lead in the third. Malloy blasted a three-run home run and Robertson added an RBI groundout. BU also scored a run on an error.
Alyssa Matoba registered a two-run double, Robertson hit an RBI groundout for the second-straight inning and Gigax drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the Bruins' lead to 14-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Cristina Insua (3-7) took the loss for the Tigers and gave up 13 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
The 14 runs are a season-high.
The Tigers were plagued by four errors, four wild pitches and six walks.
CCC fell to 7-19 overall and 2-6 in league play with the loss.
