CLERMONT, Fla. -- The 20th-ranked Bellevue University softball team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-1 victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn Saturday in nonconference action at the National Training Center Spring Games. Earlier in the day, BU dropped a 2-1 decision to Davenport University. 

Bellevue (1-4) will play Michigan-Dearborn again tomorrow (March 2) beginning at noon.

Davenport 2, Bellevue 1

The Panthers (10-2) used home runs by Ashleigh Blovsky and Alyssa Eastman to pull out the 2-1 win in BU's first game of the day.

Eastman put DU on top in the second inning with a solo home run off Bruins' starter Taylor Mohler. Eastman also pitched in the circle for the Panthers and notched six strikeouts as she improved to 3-1 on the year.

BU answered back in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1 after Augusta Ratliff's double scored Shelby Kindelin before Blovsky's home run in the sixth inning gave the Panthers the one-run win.

Mohler fell to 0-2 this season and finished with four strikeouts in six complete innings.

Hits were even at four each, but the Bruins left seven runners on base.

Bellevue 5, Michigan-Dearborn 1

The Bruins scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to the 5-1 victory over Michigan-Dearborn in the final game of the day. It marked the Bruins' first win of the season and the first victory for freshman pitcher Kelli Fisher, who tossed a five-hitter with six strikeouts. 

UMD led 1-0 with an RBI double by Maria Rodriguez in the top of the fifth. 

Bellevue quickly responded in the bottom half of the fifth, scoring five runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Kristin BurhenneKaty Shupe, and Ratliff. BU also scored two runs on a Wolverine throwing error by shortstop Lindsay Taylor.
