
COLUMBUS, Ga. -- For the second-straight season, senior Amanda Neumann has been named a Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athlete in an announcement made today in conjunction with the NAIA Softball National Championships.
Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. A total of 286 softball student-athletes were named to the 2013 team.
Neumann, a psychology major, was named the MCAC co-Player of the Year while guiding the Bruins to a 42-11 overall record, the MCAC Tournament title and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
Neumann, who was also named the Bellevue co-Female Athlete of the Year, split time as a pitcher, shortstop and third basemen and set the school record this season with 22 doubles, which ranked seventh nationally. She also tied the school record with 19 home runs, which also ranked fourth in the NAIA.
Neumann led the Bruins with 71 RBIs, 22 doubles, 19 home runs and was second with a .361 batting average and a .775 slugging percentage. In the circle, she finished the year with a 16-4 record, a 2.44 ERA and a team-leading 159 strikeouts.
On the BU softball career records chart, Neumann finished her career ranked second in home runs (48) and slugging percentage (.744), and third in doubles (44), total bases (399), shutouts (14) and strikeouts (493).
