Four Bruins named to all-Nebraska NAIA softball team

Four Bellevue University softball players were named to the Omaha World-Herald's all-Nebraska NAIA softball team announced today. 

Bruins named to the first team included freshman pitcher Taylor Mohler, senior first basemen Brooke Ellis, junior third basemen Amanda Neumann, and sophomore designated player Katie Malloy. In addition, freshmen Kelsie Bridgeford and Shelby Kindelin, as well as junior Kim Wees and senior Kathryn Wardian all garnered honorable mention accolades. 

Mohler posted a 20-5 record on the mound while leading the Bruins with a 2.13 ERA, six shutouts, and 198 strikeouts. She earned first team all-MCAC honors and was also named the MCAC Freshman of the Year. 

Ellis earned NFCA first team all-Region and all-MCAC honors after batting .378 with 12 doubles, 12 home runs and 52 RBIs. She finished her Bruin career ranked second in RBIs (131) and fourth in home runs (25).

Neumann led the Bruins in hitting, batting .393 with 18 doubles and 66 RBIs while posting a .707 slugging percentage. She also ranked second on the team in home runs (14) and runs scored (47) while earned first team all-MCAC and NFCA all-Region recognition. In the circle, Neumann went 12-7 with a 2.43 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 118.0 innings of work.

Malloy earned second team all-MCAC honors while batting .353 with a team-high 16 home runs. She also added 10 doubles and was third on the team with 44 RBIs. 

The Bruins finished the 2012 season with a 44-16 overall record and a 13-1 league mark, claiming a share of the MCAC regular season title with No. 4-ranked Central Baptist College. As a team, BU shattered the school record for home runs in a season with 70.
