BU advances to title game with shutout over York

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team continued its hot hitting, advancing to the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship game with a 13-0 shutout over York College Friday night at Hall of Fame Fields.

The Bruins (30-17) advanced to Friday's 2:30 p.m. championship game against the winner of the 12 p.m. matchup between York College and Peru State College.

Kathryn Wardian, Jessica Guyle, and Kim Wees each drove in three runs for the potent BU offense and Amanda Neumann and Allie Bartley combined for the shutout. Neumann recorded 10 strikeouts in four innings of work.

Bellevue struck early with a three-run homer by Wardian in the top of the first, giving the Bruins a 3-0 cushion.

An RBI triple to center field by Guyle extended the lead to 4-0 in the second inning.

Katie Tew drove in Wardian with a single up the middle and a bases-loaded walk to Bartley pushed the lead to 6-0 in the third. A two-run double by Guyle and a three-run homer by Wees made it 11-0 in the seven-run third frame.

Consecutive RBI doubles by pinch hitters Kristin Burhenne and Kaylea Kult put the Bruins up 13-0 in the fifth frame.
