BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team found itself on both ends of a shutout, defeating Buena Vista University 8-0 in the opener, before falling 3-0 in the nightcap in a nonconference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Hall of Fame Fields.
The Bruins (11-12) will host Doane College on Friday (April 1) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Hall of Fame Fields.
Bellevue 8, Buena Vista 0 (6 innings)
Sophomore Amanda Neumann hurled a one-hit shutout while striking out a career-high nine batters as the Bruins cruised to the 8-0 win in six innings in the opener. Neumann got plenty of run-support with five Bruins registering hits including a two-run homer by Brooke Ellis and a 3-for-3 performance from freshman Melissa Ackley.
The game was scoreless until an RBI double by Katie Malloy gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
A two-run throwing error by Beaver catcher Hannah Baker gave BU a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the fifth frame. Bellevue extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run homer to center field by Ellis later in the same inning.
Bellevue ended the game in the sixth with RBI singles by Ackley, Jessica Guyle, and Kim Wees to make the final, 8-0.

Chancey Wiley allowed four hits while improving to 5-4 on the year with the 3-0 shutout in the nightcap. The Bruins stranded five base runners in the game. Guyle recorded two of the Bruins' four hits.
The Beavers scored their first run of the day on an RBI double by Hannah Baker in the top of the fourth inning to grab a 1-0 lead. Buena Vista added two runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Erica Post and a Bruin throwing error.
