BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team moved to 6-11 on the season with a non-conference doubleheader split against William Penn University Saturday afternoon at Hall of Fame Fields. Bellevue won the opener 3-2, before dropping the nightcap 11-1 in five innings.

William Penn is now 15-6 overall on the season.

The Bruins return to action on Tuesday, March 22 when they travel to Orange City, Iowa for a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Northwestern College.

Game 1 - Bellevue 3, William Penn 2
Kathryn Wardian and Amanda Neumann both recorded home runs and Neumann fanned seven batters to guide the Bruins to the 3-2 win in the opener.

Cassie Lohman's RBI single gave the Statesmen an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Wardian tied the game with a solo shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the second.

Brianne Rowley's RBI double in the top of third helped the Statesmen regain the lead at 2-1.

A two-run homer to center field by Neumann gave the Bruins a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth and Neumann (4-5) forced a couple of pop ups and a strikeout in the top of the seventh to secure her fourth victory of the year.

Game 2 - William Penn 11, Bellevue 1
William Penn used a seven-run third inning and pounded out 10 total hits to cruise to the 11-1 win in the second game. Wardian provided the only offense for the Bruins, collecting her second home run of the doubleheader in the bottom of the second inning

Kelly Wieczorek took the loss, falling to 0-4 on the season as the Bruins used four pitchers in the contest. Amber Daly (7-1) got the win for WPU, allowing just three hits while striking out two in five innings.
