No. 14 Simon Fraser shuts out Bruins, 4-0

DECATUR, Ala. -- Fourteenth-ranked Simon Fraser University scored three runs in the third inning and Jennifer Van Egdom tossed a two-hitter en route to a 4-0 shutout over Bellevue University in pool play action Saturday afternoon in the NAIA Softball National Championships at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.

Van Egdom improved to 11-5 on the season with three strikeouts and two walks as the Clan posted their second shutout of the tournament.

Aly Bowers took the loss, dropping to 10-7 on the season, scattering four hits while recording two strikeouts and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of work.

After three scoreless inning, SFU pushed across three runs in the top of the third off of RBI doubles by Carly Moir and Haley Cicchetti and a sacrifice fly by Brittany Mayers.

Allie Bartley and Katie Lefler each collected singles for the Bruins' only hits in the contest.

The Clan added an insurance run in the top of the seventh after an RBI single to center field by Kelsey Haberl to make the final score, 4-0.

The Bruins conclude pool play action with an 11:30 a.m. game on Monday (May 24) against Lindsey Wilson College.
