Bruins claim MCAC Softball Tournament title

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior pitcher Alissa Crumley tossed a one-hitter and the Bruins pounded out 13 hits as the Bellevue University softball team claimed the 2010 MCAC Tournament title with a 7-0 shutout over York College Friday afternoon at Haworth Park.

The Bruins (32-14) now advance to the NAIA Softball National Championship on May 20-26 in Decatur, Ala. York ends their season with a 9-21 record.

Crumley improved to 17-6 on the season, striking out eight batters while not allowing a walk as no York batter got past first base.

Erica McCoy collected three hits and scored two runs to lead the Bruins at the plate. Brooke Ellis finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Kendra Gansz collected a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Four-consecutive hits, including a two-run single by Brooke Ellis and a one-run single by Allie Bartley gave the Bruins a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

An RBI single by Jessica Guyle and a one-run double by Gansz put the Bruins up 5-0 in the second frame.

The Bruins extended the lead to 6-0 on an RBI single to center field by Kim Wees in the top of the sixth inning.

Bellevue added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Bartley to make the final score, 7-0
