Bruins escape with 3-2 win over York

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University scored on a three-base throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 3-2 win over York College in the opening game of the 2010 MCAC Softball Tournament Thursday afternoon at Haworth Park.

The top-seeded Bruins (30-14) will play at 6:30 p.m. this evening against the winner of the tournament's second game against College of St. Mary and Peru State College. York (7-20) will play at 4:30 p.m. against the loser of the CSM-PSC contest.

York took an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run to left field by York pitcher Devyn Pearl in the top of the first inning. An RBI double by Guyle in the bottom of the second knotted the game at 1-1.

The Bruins took their first lead of the game on an RBI single by Allie Bartley in the bottom of the third frame.

The Panthers tied it up on a solo blast over the center field fence in the top of the fourth inning by Tristian Birch.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Bruin starter Alissa Crumley was replaced by Aly Bowers who retired the side by striking out Pearl.

Guyle led off the top of the seventh with a single to right field. Kim Wees ended the game on a sacrifice bunt to Pearl whose errant throw to first base allowed Guyle to score the winning run.

Bowers got the win, improving to 9-5 on the season with one strikeout.
