Bruins shut down Buena Vista, 4-0, 2-1

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Bellevue University softball team used solid pitching performances and timely hitting to pull out a 4-0, 2-1 sweep at NCAA III Buena Vista University Thursday evening at BVU/Storm Lake Complex.

The Bruins, who have won five straight, improved to 29-14 on the season while Buena Vista fell to 15-15 overall.

GAME 1
The Bruins scored four runs off a pair of two-run homers by Kim Wees and Jenny Gawart in the top of the first inning and Alissa Crumley recorded her third shutout of the season as Bellevue collected the 4-0 win in the opener.

After Jessica Guyle led off the game with a single, Wees recorded her second home run of the season to give BU an early 2-0 advantage. Following a single by Kendra Gansz, Gawart made it 4-0 by launching her fifth homer on the year.

Crumley shut down the Beavers, scattering six hits, while striking out eight batters and walking three to improve to 17-6 on the season.

GAME 2
The Bruins scored one run in the third and fourth innings and BU pitcher Aly Bowers allowed just five hits and one run as Bellevue gained the 2-1 win in the nightcap.

A sacrifice fly by Wees' in the third frame gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead and an RBI double by Kara Erwin in the fourth increased the margin to 2-0.

The Beavers scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by first baseman Lisa Minahan.

Bowers struck out five batters and allowed one walk to improve to 8-5 on the season.
