Bruins clinch MCAC title with sweep over York

YORK, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team clinched the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with a 3-1, 4-0 sweep over York College Tuesday afternoon. The Bruins finished the MCAC regular season undefeated at 10-0.

The Bruins are 23-10 overall. York fell to 3-17 and 0-2 in league play.

GAME 1
Senior Alissa Crumley struck out a season-high 13 batters while recording her 11th straight win as the Bruins notched the 3-1 victory in the opener. Junior Jessica Guyle went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Allie Bartley finished with two hits and sophomore Erica McCoy went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Bellevue scored the first run of the game in the top of the second following a single by Bartley and a throwing error by York's Angel Gray that plated Kara Erwin. McCoy's RBI single scored Bartley, giving BU a 2-0 advantage.

The Bruins increased the lead to 3-0 in the fourth on Guyle's RBI double to left field.

York cut the lead to 3-1 in the fifth on Devyn Pearl's RBI double to left field. Crumley held the Panthers in check the final two innings to improve to 14-2 on the year.

GAME 2
The Bruins pounded out 12 hits in the nightcap and scored three runs with two outs in the top of the seventh en route to the 4-0 shutout in the nightcap. Crumley pitched the first five innings, picking up the win to improve to 15-2 on the year with her 12th-straight victory.

Guyle, Kendra Gansz, Brooke Ellis, and McCoy all finished with two hits in the game. Gansz extended her hitting streak to 29 games.

Doubles by Guyle and Bartley gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the top of the third frame.

Five consecutive hits with two outs in the top of the seventh by McCoy, Guyle, Kim Wees, Gansz, and Ellis led to three Bruin runs to push the final margin to 4-0.

Kimber Markley recorded the save, allowing just one hit, while recording a strikeout in the final two innings.
