Bruins split with NCAA II Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of games at NCAA Division Rockhurst University Friday, winning the opener, 6-3, before falling in the nightcap 1-0.

The Bruins are now 19-10 on the season while Rockhurst stands at 9-21 overall.

GAME 1
The Bruins belted 10 hits in the opener and held the Hawks scoreless until the seventh inning, en route to the 6-3 victory. Jessica Guyle went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Alissa Crumley finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the Bruins at the plate.

Crumley also picked up the win on the mound, scattering five hits while striking out six batters and allowing just one walk in 4.1 innings of work.

Guyle's two-run double to left field in the top of the second inning gave BU an early 2-0 lead. The Bruins added a third run in the inning off of a Kim Wees RBI single to left field.

After Kara Erwin reached on an error, consecutive doubles by Allie Bartley and Crumley scored two runs to increase the lead to 5-0 in the third inning.

The Bruins extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning on Guyle's RBI single up the middle.

A pair of doubles, a single, and a hit batsmen led to three Hawk runs in the seventh.

GAME 2
A sacrifice fly to center field by Jaclyn Johnson scored the game's only run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Rockhurst escaped with the 1-0 shutout.

Lindsay Williams singled to center field in the fourth and advanced to third after a double by Kristen Benes before scoring off the Johnson sacrifice.

The Bruins were limited to four hits in the game as Kayla Hoyer got the win recording seven strikeouts with no walks in seven complete innings.

Kimber Markley took the loss for the Bruins, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out three to fall to 4-3 on the season.

Bellevue will travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Sat., April 9 for a 12 p.m. conference doubleheader at Haskell Indian Nations University.
