Bellevue splits with Warriors

FREMONT, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of nonconference games Thursday, defeating Midland Lutheran College 3-2, before dropping a 3-2 decision in eight innings in the nightcap at Christensen Field.

The Bruins are now 14-9 on the season, while Midland evened its record at 12-12.

GAME 1
The Bruins scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally for the 3-2 win over the Warriors in the opener.

Jessica Guyle led off the sixth frame with a triple. After Kim Wees walked, Kendra Gansz' fielder's choice RBI scored Guyle for the Bruins first run of the game. Kara Erwin's bases-loaded single drove in two runs to give BU the 3-2 lead.

The Warriors could not answer in the final two innings as Alissa Crumley retired six of the seven batters she faced, including two strikeouts.

Crumley improved to 7-2 on the year with the win, allowing four hits while fanning nine batters and giving up five walks.

Erwin finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Guyle went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a triple.

GAME 2
Kimber Markley's bases-loaded wild pitch allowed the Warriors to squeak out the 3-2 win in eight innings in the nightcap.

Neither team scored until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Warriors tallied a run on a ground out RBI by Lyndsi Eckelberry.

Erwin's two-run double in the sixth gave Bellevue a 2-1 advantage.

Midland answered in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on an RBI double by Jessie Smith.

The Bruins had a chance to score in the eighth, but Wees was thrown out at the plate after Brooke Ellis flied out to right field.

Erinn Brue scored on Markley's wild pitch to give the Warriors the 3-2 win.

Markley took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year while pitching her first complete game of the year. Markley recorded two strikeouts and allowed six hits while walking four batters.

Erwin finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Bruins at the plate.
