Softball splits at Morningside Tournament

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of games Friday at the Morningside College Invitational, falling to Jamestown College, 5-3, before rebounding with a 7-3 win over Northwestern (Iowa) College in the nightcap.

The Bruins are now 9-7 on the season.

Jamestown Game Notes

Sophomore Brooke Ellis went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Bruins at the plate. Senior Alissa Crumley took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the season.  Sarah Heinemann and Courney Wong each belted homers for Jamestown. Kate Street scattered six hits to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Northwestern Game Notes
Bellevue broke the game open early when it jumped on Northwestern starter Jessica Bostwick for seven runs in the first three innings. Four of the runs came in the first inning when the Bruins bunched four consecutive hits together with singles by Kim Wees and Kendra Gansz followed by doubles by Ellis and Jenny Gawart. Gansz went 2-for-3 with a double to pace an eight-hit Bruin attack. Winning pitcher Aly Bowers scattered six hits and blanked the Red Raiders for five innings before Northwestern scored all three of its runs in the sixth.

Morningside, 10 a.m.
Valley City State, Noon
Briar Cliff, 2 p.m.
