Bruins force second championship game

Bellevue defeats Park, 3-1, in MCAC Softball Tournament

BELLEVUE, Neb. --  Senior Jordann Ellis’ two-run home run helped power Bellevue University to a 3-1 victory over Park University at the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Friday afternoon at Sigler Field. The win forced a second championship game with Park at 4:30 p.m. today.

Junior pitcher Ally Bowers gave up a solo home run in the top of the first, but then held the Pirates in check the remainder of the game, giving up just two additional hits, while striking out six Park batters and walking three.

Ashley Scates blasted a solo home run, her first of the season, in the top of the first inning to put the Pirates up 1-0.

Whitney Kinman’s two-out RBI single to left field tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second.

Ellis’ two-run homer over the center field fence in the top of the third frame proved to be enough, giving the Bruins a 3-1 advantage.
