Anthony, Casart lead Bruins at Cross Country Season Opener

Freshman Peyton Anthony and senior Chris Casart finished in 10th and 11th respectively to lead the Bruin men in their cross country season opener at the Bill Buxton Invitational hosted by Simpson College. Anthony covered the 6-kilometer course in 20:12.7 with Casart right behind in 20:18.7. Both men were under Casart's Bruin course 6K best of 20:24 run in 2019.

They were followed closely across the line by junior Edrei Murillo and freshman Kaleb Wooten in 14th and 16th among the 44 finishers. Murillo posted a time of 20:56.7 and Wooten came across in 21:07.4.

The Bruins' fifth runner failed to finish resulting in an incomplete team score.

Head Coach Craig Christians: The men had a very solid showing today. It's a shame we didn't get all five guys across the line because we would have been runner-up to Simpson. We had four guys within a minute of each other and that is an indication of our potential once we get everybody healthy and racing. Putting four in the top 16 is an excellent showing. We'll go to work for a couple of weeks and I think we'll see a big improvement at our next race in Lincoln.

Next up: Greeno-Dirksen Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, Sept. 18.
