INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Bellevue University men's cross country team had three runners place in the top 20 as the Bruins finished in fourth place at the eight-team season-opening Bill Buxton Invitational hosted by Simpson College.
Simpson had six of the top nine runners in the meet as the Storm ran away with the team title with a score of 26. Grand View finished in second place at 90 points. The Bruins totaled 111 points on the 6K course.
Simpson Alumni's Trey Thompson took the individual crown in a time of 19:15.9. He was nearly 20 seconds ahead of Simpson's Spencer Moon (19:34.2) who finished in second place.
Chris Casart placed 13th overall in the field of 81 with a time of 20:24.2. Edrei Murillo finished in 15th place at 20:28.7. Gerardo Najera placed 19th in a time of 20:57.8. Cole Wagner finished in a time of 21:52.5, good for 31st place. Aaron Newton finished 33rd overall with a time of 22:03.5.
The Bruins will compete next in the Bronco Invitational in Hastings, Neb. on Saturday, Sept. 14 beginning at 10 a.m.
