Bruins make improvement, finish 10th at Dean White Invite

CRETE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's cross country had two runners in the top 40 as the Bruins finished in 10th place Saturday at the 11-team Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane University. 

Dordt College ran away with the team title with five runners placing in the top 15, finishing with a team score of 43. Northwestern (Iowa) College placed second in the team standings with 98 points. The Bruins collected a 10th-place finish with a total of 228 points.  

Like the women, all five men running today for the Bruins came home with personal best times for the 8-kilometer distance led by Cole Wagner's one and one-half minute improvement, placing 36th in 28:33. He was right behind Bruin leader Chris Casart who finished in 31st place, running a time 28:13.  The Bruins' pack continued to make big improvement again today with Tony Chol (67th in 29:57), Jason Landin (78th in 30:24) and Aaron Newton (87th in 31:00) continually moving up in the 123-runner field. 

Missouri Valley's Ulysses Orozco won the individual title in a time of 26:33.7

The Bruins will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Wayne, Neb. to participate in the Wildcat Classic hosted by Wayne State College. The men's portion of the race will begin at 10:15 a.m.
