A very challenging wind had an impact on results today but the Bruin distance track squad gained more racing experience and lowered three more record marks at today's Bronco Invite in Hastings.

The Bruin women had just three competitors, highlighted by Taylor Caba's first race outdoors after missing the opening meet with an injury. Caba opened her outdoor season with a school-record effort in the 800 meters, running 2:37.65 for seventh place overall. Dayana and Diana Montano-Salama ran the 1,500-meter race, battling the strong winds to finish in 7:02.05 and 7:32.90 respectively.

For the men, Gabe Poppen lowered his long jump record from the previous week and also added the 400-meter record. Poppen's long jump was 19 feet 1.25 inches and he covered 400 meters in 54.35, good for seventh place.

Three Bruin men competed in the 1,500-meter run with Desyebelew Debesh leading the way in fourth place in a time of 4:30.26. Edrei Murillo placed sixth in 4:35.66 while Cole Wagner crossed the line in 11th, running 4:55.74.

Finally, for the Bruins, Debesh had the day's best showing as he finished second in the 5,000-meter run in 17:46.33. Dixon Kiptoo was fifth for the Bruins in 19:09.28.

The Bruins will be back on the track next Saturday, April 10, as they compete in the Concordia Invite in Seward, Neb.
