BU men win third-straight

BETHANY, Okla. -- Buster Honeywood scored five minutes ahead of the halftime whistle and the Bruins found two more second half tallies as the Bellevue University men's soccer team defeated Southwestern Christian University, 3-0, on Tuesday evening.

With their third-straight victory, Bellevue improves to 8-5-2 on the year while the loss drops SCU to 3-7-1.

In the 40th minute, Bellevue earned a free kick a foul near the top of the penalty area. Buster Honeywood stepped up to a free kick a ripped a shot inside the goal post from 22 yards for his third goal of the seasons a 1-0 lead.

Despite being out-shot 5-4 in the opening 45 minutes, the Bruins remained in front by that 1-0 margin as the halftime whistle sounded.

Álvaro Moros Sanz doubled the BU advantage, rocketing a volley from 25 yards, in the 70th minute. Kevin Becerril directed a bouncing ball into the oncoming path of Moros Sanz whose shot exploded off his foot for his fifth strike of the season, tying him for the team lead.

Caedmon Schwanke provided an insurance tally in the 86th minute as he headed home a corner kick from Matias Daniel-Doren and the Bruins saw out the victory from there. Schwanke's goal was his third of the year.

Bellevue out-shot SCU for the match by a count of 12-11 and 6-5 on goal. The Bruins also ran up a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Matej Hron racked up three saves in the loss for the Eagles.

Taariq Ganga stopped five shots in goal to earn his sixth shutout of the year for the Bruins and the team's seventh.

Bellevue hosts Waldorf University (2-8-1) on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Papillion Landing. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. start with Senior Day ceremonies set to take place before kick-off.
