Bruins renew acquaintances with York in win over former MCAC foe

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Gabriel Dias Juliani scored twice to lead a four-goal onslaught for the Bellevue University soccer team on Saturday evening in a 4-0 win over York University at Papillion Landing.

Bellevue evened their record at 2-2-2 while the Panthers remain winless, falling to 0-2-1.

The meeting was the first between Bellevue and York since the 2014 season with the Bruins collecting their 11th-straight victory in the all-time series.

The first half was largely bereft of scoring chances with the teams combining for just two shots on goal and neither keeper really being tested.

Gabriel Dias Juliani opened the scoring in the 62nd minute with his first goal of the year. He settled a bouncing ball at the six, turned and beat the keeper near side to put the Bruins on the board.

Six minutes later Dias Juliani was played in behind the defense by Kevin Becerril and beat the York goalie low and to the far side from just inside the 18.

Any lingering thoughts of a comeback by York were put to bed when Fletcher Hedge picked up a bouncing ball at the edge of the area and ripped a shot home from 18 yards out.

Ombeni Mubake put an exclamation point on the evening, scoring in the waning seconds off a corner. Giovani Lima Soares sent in a cross to Caedmon Schwanke who headed the ball onto Mubake for a headed goal.

Taariq Ganga made one save to earn his third shutout of the season.

Alexandre Florens stopped a pair of shots in the loss as the Panthers were out-shot 13-3 and 6-1 on goal for the evening.

Bellevue earned all nine corner kicks in the game.

Bellevue returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they host Concordia University at 7:30 p.m. from Papillion Landing.
