Bellevue clinches postseason spot with 8-0 dismantling of Waldorf

PAPILLION, Neb. -- With a postseason bid on the line the Bellevue University men's soccer team prolonged their season with an 8-0 victory over Waldorf University on Wednesday afternoon.

Bellevue snaps a four-game losing streak to improve to 5-10-3 and 3-2-0 in conference play.

Waldorf ends their season at 8-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in CAC play.

Prior to the match, Bellevue recognized seven seniors – Lucas Milhomen, Nate Fibich, Oumar Sissoko, Tibor Stankovic, Jaeger Erickson, Zach Robbins, and Alvaro Capra – for their contributions to the program.

The game began at a breakneck pace with three cards, a pair of shots, and a goal in less than four minutes of action.

Oumar Sissoko opened the scoring, ripping a free kick into the back of the net from 20 yards out.

With Bellevue leading and controlling the attack, out-shooting Waldorf 12-5 in the opening half, Sebastian Zapata scored in the 36th minute from Alex Jacobs and Alvaro Moros Sanz to double the Bruin advantage.

Three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half saw BU effectively put the game to bed.

Jaeger Erickson and Zach Robbins scored 91 seconds apart in the 52nd and 53rd minutes, the first two of four Bruins to score their first goals of the year.

Francisco Cardenas and Alex Jacobs also worked their way onto the score sheet 71 seconds apart in the 65th and 66th minutes of the game.

Jake Cover scored his first of two goals in the 55th minute. He added a second with 36 seconds remaining.

Romeo Paparesta and Jared Robles combined on five saves in goal for Bellevue to preserve the team's seventh shutout of the season.

Charlie Austin-Ross stopped six shots on goal for Waldorf.

Bellevue out-shot Waldorf 26-9 overall and 15-5 on goal while earning nine of the 16 corners in the match.

Bellevue travels to Lawrenceville, Ga. next week for the CAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The Bruins will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament, opening play on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. against the No. 1 seed with official pairings to be announced in the coming days.
