Bruins fall to rival Hastings in testy affair

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Paul Obrusnik and David Panter scored for #22 Hastings College as the Bellevue University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference decision on Wednesday evening.

Hastings improves to 12-1-1 with their second-straight win and extends their unbeaten streak to 12 games. Bellevue, following a third-straight defeat sees their record fall to 4-9-3 on the year.

Paul Obrusnik opened the scoring in the eighth minute. He took a pass in the middle of the field, dribbled to the near sideline and beat keeper Romeo Paparesta to the far side of the goal.

Sandro Rubio nearly doubled the advantage before halftime, ripping a free kick to the top corner of the goal but Paparesta punched it away to keep the score 1-0 at the break.

Bellevue threatened several times in the second half and had a goal called back for offside before David Panter scored the backbreaker.

Panter took a pass inside the box in the 75th minute. After having his first shot blocked, he gathered the loose ball and flicked a shot under the crossbar to double the Hastings lead.

Despite Bellevue out-shooting Hastings 13-12, Hastings out-shot Bellevue 8-6 in shots on goal while corners skewed 5-4 in favor of the Bruins.

Both Paparesta and Brendan Dally finished with six saves in the game.

The spirited match saw 23 fouls called in addition to a total of nine cards issued (3 red, 6 yellow).

Bellevue returns home this weekend to play host to (RV) Viterbo University (14-1-1/1-1-0 CAC) at Papillion Landing for a 5:30 p.m. kick-off.
