Bruins explode for five goals to rout IWU

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team turned in their best offensive output in nearly two months thrashing Iowa Wesleyan University 5-0 to open play at the inaugural CAC Classic.

Records:

Bellevue: 4-6-3 (2-0-0 CAC)
Iowa Wesleyan: 3-10-1 (0-1-1 CAC)

BU 5, IWU 0

Antonio Capra opened the scoring in the game's eight minute, converting a penalty following a yellow card to IWU's Francisco Morsila, with his second goal of the season.

Six minutes later, the Tigers found themselves short-handed with Joao Viera sent off following a straight red.

Playing a man up, Bellevue doubled their lead four minutes before halftime as Oumar Sissoko found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. Matias Daniel-Doren set up the strike with an assist.

The Bruins poured on the assault in the second half with Jake Cover scoring twice in the period and Jaeger Erickson also finding the back of the net.

Cover found the back of the net 22 seconds into the half and again in the 68th minute, just past to the midway mark to run his season goal total to four.

Erickson struck for the fourth goal in the 61st minute, his first of the season.

Romeo Paparesta and Jared Robles combined on the shutout in goal despite neither needing to make a save as none of IWU's 10 shots found their way on frame.

Bellevue put seven of 14 shots on target but Harrison Gailey stopped just two for the Tigers in the loss.

With the win, BU has picked up some momentum since the season's midway point. In their last three games, the Bruins are 2-0-1, out-scoring their opposition 7-0.
