MBU deals Bruins 2-1 loss

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Alvaro Moros Sanz snapped a program-record scoring drought but the Bellevue University men's soccer team fell to (RV) Missouri Baptist University 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Papillion Landing.

Records:

Bellevue, winless in their past seven matches, slips to 2-6-2 on the seasons while MBU snapped a two-game skid to improve to 6-2-0.

Missouri Baptist drew a penalty kick in the sixth minute with Marko Dordevic taking, and converting, the attempt to give the visitors an early lead.

Alvaro Moros Sanz answered for Bellevue in the 19th minute. Alex Jacobs played a ball into the box that MBU keeper Callum McKinlay came out to meet but he was unable to control the ball which skipped through his hands and onto the oncoming Moros Sanz' head to snap a run of 508 minutes 49 seconds without a goal for the Bruins.

Jack Carney put the Spartans back in front with a 37th minute strike. Carney hit a shot from distance that it appeared Romeo Paparesta would handle, but a bobble by the Bruin keeper saw the ball wind up across the goal line.

Missouri Baptist out-shot Bellevue 13-12 on the day but the Bruins put eight shots on goal to MBU's five and took all six corners in the match.

McKinlay finished with seven saves for the Spartans and Paparesta finished with a pair for the Bruins.

Coach Mark Heath-Preston:

"We made two mistakes and it was not one of our best performances. Still, we had enough chances to win the game but also giving too many opportunities away early in the second half."
